How my journey began

My name is Dr. Amber Oliver. Feel free to call me Amber.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in New York State.

I have received my Master's in Social Work with a specialty in Mental Health and Military Social Work from the University of Southern California. I also received a Doctorate in Social Work from USC as well. I have been a social worker since 2013 and have worked with various populations including children, veterans, families and incarcerated people. My approach to life coaching is to guide you in identifying the root cause of the feelings and symptoms you are currently experiencing. By identifying this, we will work together on thought processes and behaviors that are keeping you “stuck.” With the root cause identified, I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy techniques in order to adapt, change or develop new coping skills and thoughts. My approach to therapy is to combine the benefits of life coaching with processing past life events that are contributing to “Stuckness.” I believe that transformation is a collaborative process. My hope is that I can help guide you to identify and meet your goals. In my practice, I welcome all ideas, opinions and lifestyles. I am kink and poly friendly. I want you to feel open and comfortable discussing any topic you may want to work on. I believe that “keeping it real” in session is important. I believe in incorporating sensory tools as well as religious and cultural tools as appropriate. Each relationship should be tailored to meet your specific needs.

What People Are Saying

“I've been sober almost 20 years and have been diagnosed and treated for bipolar disorder almost as long. Needless to say, I've had experience with self help, to include therapy off and on for those years.

I can say without a doubt that Amber is by far one of the most compassionate, qualified people I've ever had the pleasure of working with.

She's always available, encouraging and knowledgeable. She never pushes and she doesn't try to slow you down either. That's important for me because depending on what's happening in my life and with my moods I can go from 100 mph to 0 and back in a hurry. Amber always know what speed I'm going and is right there with me.

She's giving me tools that I feel like I can use when we're not communicating and tools that will serve me for the rest of my life.

A lot of my challenges for me have been life long. For one of the first times I feel hope that I am now developing tools and a way of life that will allow me to navigate those challenges with more ease and grace.

I was skeptical that something like online therapy would work; I thought my problems were too "complex" and I was too "broken". I am so pleasantly surprised that this is not the case at all. I'm sure a reason why is that Amber has been such a great therapist.

I highly recommend Amber--she's the best.”

“Fantastic. I noticed more changes with her help than I have in 10 years of therapy with 3 different therapists. Very insightful and supportive but you have to be willing to do the work on your own time.”

“Amber is lovely. The conversation flows really naturally and I love the resources that she shares each week. There is very little pressure, but I can already see myself growing in self understanding, which I find really impressive considering I entered into this process feeling like I knew myself quite well. Overall I am very happy we got matched together.”

“Dr. Oliver is great; she listens to not only my concerns but also to what I want and need from a counselor and is super responsive to those needs. She always answers in a timely way and asks all the right questions. She also uses many tools to help me find clarity, from self-reflective worksheets to activities and proactive questions.”
